Procrastination of work has become so common these days and the only excuse people give for postponing their work is lack of time. This is not exactly true. The main reason for leaving your work undone is wasting your time on unimportant matters. If you know how to manage your time, you will be able to finish your work on time. Making the best use of available time is called time management.

The best way to find out whether you wasted any time is to make a list of all the things you did during the day. Compare the list with the works you ought to have done on that day. The comparison will reveal areas where you wasted your time. Once you have identified the areas where you wasted your time, you will be able to avoid those time wastes in the future and concentrate more on the tasks assigned to you. The only way to complete the work assigned to you on time is to make necessary changes in your work habits, as you cannot make the day longer or shorter in any way to suit your lifestyle. Lost time can never be retrieved.

If you want to achieve the maximum work output, you have to make the most effective use of every minute in your life. You can’t buy ready-made time management from the stores and no outsider can force it upon you. The need for time management should come from within yourself and you need to have the necessary skills. The only way to avoid waste of time is to be punctual for your duties and do whatever is necessary to be done.

Some people are so busy throughout the day but they can’t complete the tasks assigned to them on time. This is simply because they wasted their time on silly things. So prioritize your works so that you will be spending your time on work that needs to be completed first. If you have no idea about time management, you can get free advice on completing your tasks within the given time. If you follow these pieces of advice, you will be able to avoid all wastes of time and your work output will be more.

The easiest place to search for advice on effective management of time is the internet. There are a number of websites which teach you how to utilize your time in the best fruitful way. Read the articles published at websites very carefully and try to follow the advice very strictly.

Whatever you read on Wide Wide World of Web may not be fully applicable to you. Depending upon the type of work you do and the circumstances you live in, you should prepare a plan and schedule that suits your special needs. Prioritizing your tasks and setting a time limit in which to complete them are the most important parts of managing your time efficiently.

Time never waits for anyone and is a precious thing that you will never get it back once you have lost it. Behind every success story, there will be a proper time management. If you can manage your free time in your home, there will be opulence, health and well-being in your family. That is the reason why family time management becomes an important part in our day to day life.

A proper routine is the most important aspect for everyone who wishes to be succeeded. A day starting with a good breakfast in time gives you a healthy life throughout the day. For students, breakfast taken in time has lots of benefits for their concentration in studies and the punctuality. An ideally managed daily routine starts with a good breakfast that is taken in time. Starting the day like this will keep you up with the right time for the rest of the day.

For all those who have a job, it is really important to reach their workplace on time. Order and punctuality in your workplace will keep you growing as it is always desired by your employer. When you do not utilize your time properly, you will have to rush to finish things off. This will create unnecessary stress and tension to your life. To manage your time properly, support of your family members is also necessary. When your family as a whole supports you in your time management, it creates a sense of responsibility and accountability within your family. This aids in family relationship.

Having your lunch in correct time has psychological and physical effects on you. It creates and fosters a sense of time management and it is good for your health too. When you take your lunch in time, you will have enough time to enjoy your meals and if it is with your family members, you will have some nice time with them, enjoying the meals.

Starting your day early in the morning is the most important factor of all. For this purpose, you will have to go to bed early. You will be tired after doing a day’s work and it will be beneficial for you to go to bed early. It helps you to relax your body and mind from the stress and tensions of your daily life. After getting enough sleep, your body regains the strength and your mind feels more relaxed. So getting up early in the morning and keeping this time for your important activities will help you in doing important things with more concentration. This is another factor for your success in life.

When you are unable to manage your time effectively, you will face some serious failures in your life. You will have loss in terms of your health, wealth and happiness. Once you have started to plan your time more effectively and practically, you are safe and your life will be succeeded. You can avoid unnecessary tensions in your life, just by planning your routines making it more productive.

Time Management is a very important aspect of one’s professional life. Time is very precious and utilizing it in an efficient way brings you closer to success. For anything to happen it has fixed preassigned time. Even the seasons revolve around this fixed time slot. There is a predefined time for everything including sowing and reaping of the crop. God fixes the time for everything and nothing is known to happen before or after. You can see this pattern even in the movement of the planets; they revolve at a specific pace and follow predefined paths in a fixed time. If they ever stray away from their path destruction happens in a large scale. As we can see time plays an important role in every part of the universe, even though you may ask yourself Why time management is necessary.

Being regular and punctual are the main parts of time management. If you want to achieve your life goals, these two characteristics are very important. To have a happy family along with a successful life, every member of the family should abide by a strict time table. All the chores should be completed on time. There is no exception for the youngest member or the eldest one of the family, every one contributes to the success of the family by being on time. It even contributes to the health of the family.

Also, one should avoid procrastination at any level. Whatever the priority of the task or complexity of the task does not matter. All that matters is if you have completed the task or not. For the success of any business or the well being of a family, procrastination is the worst enemy. It pulls the success away from you. So, try and complete all your tasks the same day without any delay, in a serial fashion rather than multi-tasking away your productivity.

Time management techniques are also very important for a student to ensure success. A student should chalk out a clear time table on how to utilize his or her precious time. For a student every minute is very precious. As it is especially crucial for the youth of a family to manage his time, they should be encouraged to plan their time wisely and implement the plan meticulously. This in turn plays a major role in their attainment of success.

The success of a youth member in the family contributes to the success of the whole family. That is why the youth are crucial to a family. They cannot be neglected and their success proves to be very valuable. So, stop putting a comma after you complete a part of your work, rather complete it wholly and put a period. It pays off in the end and contributes to the overall success of you and your family.

Be punctual, be regular and manage your time wisely. That is the first step you would be taking towards success and from there there’s no looking back. Remember that the journey towards your goal is as important as the goal itself. It is never too late to start managing your time. Time Management can be incorporated at any point of time but still would prove to be useful.

Techniques for time management have a tendency to make us focus on doing things one at a time. That may work for many, if not most. It may, very well, be a necessary approach at times. But there are alternatives…

What if you were to start a project, then suddenly get inspired to take on another project? Let’s call those projects One and Two, respectively. Then, as you start to work on Project Two, you feel overwhelmingly compelled to work on yet another project you’ve been meaning to work on, hereinafter referred to as Project Three. Now, as you’ve started to make some serious progress on Project Three, Project One raises its ugly head and demands your attention.

This sounds like a great big mess, now doesn’t it? Oddly enough, some people actually work that way. While they may or may not manage to complete their intended projects the moment they set out to, there is an effective way to approach things in this manner — but in a somewhat more purposeful fashion. By doing so, you can actually get a lot done, completing all three projects eventually.

How does something like this work?

Here are four concepts to bear in mind to make the serial workflow method work:

1) Stop beating yourself up over it

Stop feeling the guilt and sham about your perceived lack of organization. Just the worrying and negative emotions alone rob you of your ability to get things done by depleting your energy in a direction other than accomplishment.

2) Stop losing work you’ve already done

The biggest difficulty with the serial workflow method is when we forget where left off on the project. That just kills productivity. It can take quite a bit of discipline to keep things organized, but it’s fairly easy to make it happen when the reward is that you can complete the project and move onto other things.

In order to to this, make sure to leave the project in a place that you can pick up right where you left off. So make sure you a) find your project again, and b) close up any open work and ideas in an obvious way, like writing down what you did, where you left off, and what the next order of business should be.

3) Benefit of your brain’s weird wanderings

I am not kidding. Our brain is designed in weird and wonderful ways. It does its thing even — and especially — while we’re doing something else. So while you’ve put project A aside for the time being, you may get a brilliant idea for it right when you’re supposedly doing something else. Write it down! Accept that your brain works that way. In fact, embrace it. And schedule maybe 3 projects together that you can alternate between until you’re done. If you finish one of them, phase in another project in its slot.

4) Keep things interesting and fast paced

Arranging projects into this serial pattern can keep otherwise boring tasks quite interesting since you’ll be switching back and forth between them and won’t have to do any of them for longer than you feel like it.

So instead of beating yourself up, harness your brain’s unique ability to do things in a serial rather than an all-at-once way. Many projects are too big to be completed in one session anyway. You might as well break them down, and split tasks up. One task for project One, another for Project Two, then a little work for project Three, and so on. You will be amazed at how much work you can actually get done this way. While it’s not the most conventional time management technique, it may very well work for you and help accomplish the most tedious of jobs.

Many people want to be coached to manage their time better. I say NO! to that. You cannot manage time anyway; it just keeps ticking away no matter what you do.

What you can do is manage yourself based on the two concepts I keep mentioning: self-knowledge and self-acceptance. Following are four principles to maximize the time that you have. They take time to incorporate into your life at the habit level. Don’t give up. Keep practicing.

Good Enough
Accept that no human being is meant to do everything. We all have our uniqueness; things we do better than others and vice versa. Perfection is not a human condition. Cut yourself some slack and adopt the concept of “good enough”. You can rework your resume 50 times. Is it really so much better than a much earlier draft? You can shop for the perfect dress endlessly? Wasn’t the first one you tried and liked as good as the 15th? How much time did you spend past “good enough”? Demand higher standards of excellence where it really counts.

Specialness
Concentrate on excelling in what you do well, what you would enjoy doing better, and new areas you would like to learn. Delegate, hire, share, partner with people who complement you or can fill the needs you have in areas you don’t enjoy or do not know that well. Don’t ever berate yourself for not being able to do it all. Appreciate your talents and excellence and flaunt them. They are you, yours and very special. Let others have their specialness too. The results will not only save time but enrich and free you.

Energy and Time
Know and honor your energy levels. Are you a morning person, do you have an afternoon slump? Your time will be best used if you pace the tasks you have to do based on this knowledge. Do the most challenging at your peak energy time. Build in your Joy Breaks (see last month’s newsletter) both as rewards for finishing a formidable task and to refresh yourself at low energy periods.

Focus in the Moment
Develop habits that help you focus on what you are doing in the moment. Do not allow yourself to think of what you have to do next while you are doing what you are doing. Put a “do not disturb” sign on your door and do not take phone calls. By putting everything else out of your mind while focusing on the task at hand, you will be using your time efficiently. If you get stuck on something, take a break. Move to something else, get the information you need to continue, change scenery, stretch, whatever it takes, but don’t sit there stuck.

Note: The suggestions I make are not one dimensional or simple. The questions I suggest you ask yourself have multiple answers and may be different on different days. I suggest you keep them all in a file or notebook and refer back to them regularly. You will gain a lot if you do.
